Highways, Forestry and Parks
Forestry and Parks Department
The Forestry and Parks Department was merged with the County Highway
Department in 1981 by board resolution. Two (2) full time employees have
the responsibility of maintaining all forest lands and parks.
During the summer months, additional personnel are contracted to manage the
Copes Corners Park, which has 18 campsites with water and electric hookup.
Also three pavilions are available at the park.
Another park maintained by the forestry department is the Forest of Dozen
Dads. It is mainly a picnic and nature trail area, and there is no charge
for its use.
With 3600 acres of County owned forests, a contract is made with Kenneth L.
Williams, Forestry Consultant, to aid in the management of county owned forest
and marketing of timber. Under this contract, Mr. Williams receives 15% of
gross timber sales of which 10% is actual cash and 5% is applied toward rental
of office space.
Highways, Forestry and Parks Buildings
